Gerard O’Herlihy undertook his legal studies at University College Dublin and qualified as a solicitor in 1978.

Following work in Wexford, he took over M. Roche & Co from Maura Roche on her appointment to the bench in 1980.

Gerard specialises in the areas of litigation and commercial, contract and employment law and he also advises a number of private clients.  A particular focus is that of personal injury litigation and Gerard represents corporate and private clients in this area.

Gerard also advises several well-known authors in the area of literary, film and theatrical contracts.

Gerard also has considerable experience as an advocate, an area which he has developed considerably over a number of years.  While all solicitors are entitled to plead in Irish courts, a relatively small number of solicitors regularly exercise this right in all the courts of the land.  Alongside fruitful working relationships with a number of leading barristers, Gerard can also represent clients in court himself if the client wishes.

Outside his legal work, Gerard was National President of Round Table Britain and Ireland in 1992-93, and President of Round Table International from 1994-95, and has held a number of local and national officerships in the organisation.  As part of his activities with Round Table he has developed great experience
